HeatKit is built on a foundation of proven masonry heater design and decades of experience in the field.
Developed to make contraflow masonry heaters more accessible and consistent, the system preserves the core principles of traditional masonry heating while adapting them for modern construction and real-world installation.
Norbert Senf is one of the founding members of the Masonry Heater Association (MHA) and a pioneer in the development of modern masonry heaters in North America.
In 1985, Norbert developed the original HeatKit core system, recognized as the first masonry heater core of its kind in North America. His work helped make masonry heaters more accessible, consistent, and buildable for skilled masons across North America.
He also developed the first “white” bake oven system, a design where flames do not pass directly through the oven chamber. This innovation allows for cleaner baking conditions and greater versatility in masonry heater design.
Over the course of several decades, Norbert dedicated himself to the research, testing, and advancement of masonry heaters, including extensive work through Lopez Labs. His focus has always been on performance, safety, and refining the way masonry heaters are built and understood.
Through HeatKit and his broader contributions to the industry, Norbert has played a key role in shaping modern masonry heater design. His work continues to influence builders, educators, and homeowners across North America.
Justin Beyer is a third-generation bricklayer with a lifelong connection to the masonry trade. Introduced to the craft at a young age, he spent his early years learning on job sites before beginning work as a labourer in his teens and entering the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) while still in high school.
Over the years, Justin built extensive experience across residential, commercial, and refractory masonry, developing a strong reputation for quality workmanship and durable construction.
In 2017, he founded Compass Brick & Stone, where he continues to focus on craftsmanship, detail, and long-term performance in every project.
After discovering masonry heaters, Justin developed a deep appreciation for their efficiency, tradition, and enduring design. That passion led him to join the Masonry Heater Association (MHA) and attend WildAcres, further expanding his knowledge within the masonry heater community.
Today, Justin is proud to carry HeatKit forward in Canada — combining traditional masonry principles with modern, high-performance wood heating systems built to last for generations.
HeatKit is a proven masonry heater core system designed to simplify construction while maintaining high performance. Instead of building from scratch, HeatKit provides a tested foundation that ensures consistent results.
